Tullow Oil, JV Partners To Drill More Basin Openers, Appraisal Wells in Kenya in Late 2016

Africa Oil has reiterated that the South Lokichar basin could see 2-4 Potential basin-openers in late 2016 and beyond as well as 4-8 Appraisal and exploration drilling targets raising hopes of renewed activity in Kenya’s Blocks 10BB and 13T.

Near term basinsThe basin openers first reported by OilNews Kenya in December 2015 according to the May presentation to investors are among efforts to see an upside to current view of contingent resources to come from the Lokichar Basin and/or new basins.

“Commencing second half of 2016 with 4 to 8 wells focusing on Northern portion of Lokichar Basin and Deep Objectives,” reads the presentation.

The Near-term Basin Openers however remain: Tulya, Thilli, Linga, or Lukwa Prospects in South Kerio (Block 10BB) North Samaki & Kifaru Prospects, in the North Turkana (Block 10BA).

Results from the Cheptuket Prospect in Kerio Valley (Block 12A) continue to be evaluated.

 

Etom ComplexOther than the near term basin openers the Etom area is among the front runners likely to see new activity where the Etete prospect part of the Etom complex and located to the south east of the Etom discovery in Block 13T has been highlighted.

Further north a number of Northern Prospects are being evaluated including: Ebenyo, Laboria and Erut in Block 13T Ekadeli, Elim and Ekamongo in Block 10BB.

Africa Oil has also said the partners continue to advance Appraisal and Exploration Drilling Targets for consideration in the next drilling program with focus on appraisal/step out opportunities in northern area of Lokichar Basin.
