MOZAMBIQUE: Aiteo Eastern E&P, PETROMOC, Enter MoU to Build a new Refinery

Nigerian energy firm Aiteo Eastern E&P Company Limited has entered into a partnership with Mozambique’s national oil company, PETROMOC, to build a new refinery.

According to local media reports, the planned facility in Mozambique will have a production capacity of 200,000 barrels of fuel per day.

Mozambican President Daniel Chapo announced that the refinery project is expected to be completed within 24 months. The agreement between Aiteo and PETROMOC aims to significantly boost the country’s fuel infrastructure.

“The project, slated for completion within two years, will expand our storage capacity by 160,000 metric tonnes for liquid fuels and 24,000 metric tonnes for Liquefied Petroleum Gas,” said President Chapo.

He emphasized the project’s transformative potential, noting that it would help position Mozambique as a key player in the regional liquid fuel market. The refinery will produce gasoline, diesel, naphtha, and Jet A1 fuel, with the goal of strengthening the country’s export capacity and creating jobs, particularly for young people.

“These milestones demonstrate not only the strength of our natural reserves but also the growing credibility, security, and reform-oriented environment that is attracting private sector investment to support our economic growth,” the president stated during the recent Mozambique Mining and Energy Conference.
