Uganda’s Oil and Gas Industrial Park Master Plan to Be Ready By June 2017
The master plan for an Oil and Gas industrial park in Uganda being developed by SMEC International will now be ready by June 2017 according to Dickens Kamugisha from the Africa Institute for Energy Governance (AFIEGO).
The master plan earlier expected to be completed by February 2017 has seen the government allocate approximately 3,000 Ha of land for the project, making it one of the largest industrial parks in the world.
Work on the refinery has stalled since the pullout of RT Global Resources with discussions underway with new lead investors.
The Industrial Park is intended to form part of a new industrial city encompassing: an oil and gas refinery; energy, petrochemical and other strategic industries; an international airport; commercial and administrative areas; health and education facilities; residential neighbourhoods; public spaces; and green areas.
During construction the refinery will create approximately 5000 jobs, and approximately 650 jobs during operation, while the Industrial Park will contribute to the overall development of the Ugandan economy.
