MOZAMBIQUE: Eni announces the launch of the Coral North FLNG hull
In the presence of the Minister of Mineral Resources of the Republic of Mozambique, Estevão Pale, and Eni’s Chief Operating Officer, Global Natural Resources, Guido Brusco, Eni and its partners, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), ENH, KOGAS, and XRG, announced today in Geoje, South Korea, the launch of the Coral North FLNG vessel, in line with the project’s schedule. Coral North will be the second next-generation floating LNG facility to be located in the Rovuma basin, offshore Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, and will produce gas from the northern part of the Coral field.
Leveraging the knowledge and experience gained since the start of production at Coral South in 2022, Coral North is designed to deliver greater efficiency and performance optimization, while reducing costs and minimizing execution risks, with the aim of completing the project by 2028.
With a liquefaction production capacity of 3.6 million tonnes per year (MTPA), Coral North will double Mozambique’s total LNG production to 7 MTPA. This milestone will position the country as Africa’s third-largest LNG producer and exporter, strengthening its role as a key player in the global energy landscape.
Coral North is expected to double the economic impact for Mozambique, thanks to LNG revenues, increased competitiveness of local industries, and the creation of new jobs. Coral North will also expand investments in local development initiatives.
Eni has been present in Mozambique since 2006. Between 2011 and 2014, the company discovered vast natural gas resources in the Rovuma Basin, in the Coral, Mamba Complex, and Agulha fields, with approximately 2,400 billion cubic meters of gas in place. Coral South, the first gas production project from the Rovuma Basin, has already successfully delivered over 135 LNG cargoes to the market. Eni also contributes to the country’s economic diversification and access to education, healthcare, and water through the implementation of an integrated sustainability plan.
