The board of the National Oil Corporation has extended the term of the managing director Sumayya Hassan Athmani.<\/p>\n
Sumayya who took over at NOCK in 2012 has been at the helm of the company that is involved in both upstream and downstream activities in Kenya\u00a0 and has seen the extension of the company\u2019s branch network as well as spearheaded the growth of the oil exploration industry.<\/p>\n
The oil marketer has however come under fire for not keeping up with its mandate including providing stability in our markets by commercial importation, distribution, sales and exportation of energy products with a number of shortages having been reported all over the country.<\/p>\n
Lobby groups have also been against the oil company for with a number of graft and corruption allegations having turned up.<\/p>\n
Following the renewal of her term the consumer federation of Kenya has termed it as irregular and unprocedural as neither was she appraised for her performance nor was there a 6 months prior formal request by Ms Sumayya for an extension of her contract.<\/p>\n
The lobby group has pledged to fight the appointment in court should the energy cabinet secretary not be cancelled.<\/p>\n
