The\u00a0Federal Republic of Somalia<\/em>\u00a0has confirmed that the country\u2019s\u00a0Petroleum Law<\/em>\u00a0has been ratified by His Excellency,\u00a0President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.\u00a0The Presidential Ratification is a landmark moment in the development of Somalia\u2019s natural resources, which will be transformational for the country\u2019s development. Somalia has the potential to become one of the most significant plays offshore East Africa.<\/p>\n

TGS offers 20,000 km of long-offset 2D seismic data offshore Somalia<\/em>, which has been used to de-risk source rock presence, distribution and maturity. This data complements an\u00a0additional 20,000 km 2D survey, also offered by TGS<\/em>. This is the only data available over the blocks of the\u00a0first Offshore License Round\u00a0<\/em>and TGS has an exclusive agreement with the Somali government to market this data to interested parties.<\/p>\n

As part of the Petroleum Law,\u00a0The Somali National Oil Company (SONOC)<\/em>\u00a0has been established as a government-controlled entity charged with participating in petroleum operations, while provision is also made for a\u00a0Somali Petroleum Authority<\/em>\u00a0to act as a regulatory body overseeing oil and gas activity.<\/p>\n

This recent development now paves the way for the conclusion of\u00a0Somalia\u2019s first Offshore Somalia License Round<\/em>, with an expected closing date for submissions of bids at the\u00a0end of Q3 2020<\/em>.\u00a0 In conjunction with the license round, a\u00a0roadshow is scheduled in Houston, Texas on 31st March<\/em>\u00a0where confirmation of the offshore blocks in the region will be announced.<\/p>\n
