In the upcoming East Africa Oil & Gas Summit (EAOGS), the region\u2019s largest oil and gas conference and exhibition, Mr. Silvester Kasuku, Director General and CEO of Lapsset Corridor Development Authority, will deliver a detailed update on the project during a 30-minute speech on day one of EAOGS on\u00a016 November<\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are delighted to have the support of Mr. Kasuku and his team at the LCDA. The work that the Authority undertakes embracing regional cooperation is of critical importance in developing the critical infrastructure projects that can support sustainable oil and gas production and contribute to social and economic development across East Africa.\u201d said Rob Percival, EAOGS Director.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Launched in 2012 by President Mwai Kibaki, former Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and South Sudan President Salva Kiir, the Sh2.7 trillion Lappset is the most ambitious and expensive infrastructure project being undertaken in East Africa with 70 individual construction projects spread across four countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Of particular interest to the EAOGS audience will be the crude oil pipeline between Lamu Port and Kenya\u2019s oil fields in Turkana Basin to Ethiopia and South Sudan; the planned oil refinery in Kenya; and details on how the project is being sustainably financed. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Two speakers confirmed to tackle questions surrounding the finance of such infrastructure projects are Dr. Moses Ikiara, Managing Director, KenInvest and Gabriel Negatu, Regional Director, Eastern Africa, African Development Bank.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Recently quoted as saying\u00a0<\/b><\/span>t<\/span><\/strong>he AfDB will support pipeline construction \u201cwith whatever means available,\u201d Negatu remains upbeat about the investment opportunities for those keen to gain a foothold in East Africa\u2019s energy industry. \u201cNobody has ever, ever lost money financing pipelines,\u201d Negatu said. If there is oil flowing, \u201cit\u2019s generally viable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

EAOGS is hosted by the Kenyan Ministry of Energy & Petroleum and will run from\u00a016-17 November 2016<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>at Nairobi\u2019s Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).<\/span><\/p>\n
