{"id":5180,"date":"2016-09-21T10:14:12","date_gmt":"2016-09-21T10:14:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/?p=5180"},"modified":"2017-01-24T18:38:43","modified_gmt":"2017-01-24T18:38:43","slug":"kenya-scoops-6-awards-in-world-energy-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/index.php\/kenya-scoops-6-awards-in-world-energy-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya Scoops 6 Awards In World Energy Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a colourful glitzy ceremony to recognize individuals and corporates that have\u00a0made significant contributions in the energy sector worldwide, Kenya has scooped six out of the seven\u00a0awards in the Sub-Saharan category during the 39th World Energy Engineering Congress in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n<p>The awards are run by The Association of Energy Engineers, a global nonprofit professional association\u00a0represented in 98 countries, whose objective is to promote the scientific and educational interests in the\u00a0energy industry and to foster action for sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p>Kenya has outshone all other African countries and walked away with six awards slotted for the African\u00a0category. From the over 60 regional awards presented to individuals and organizations around the world,\u00a0Kenya has taken center stage once again and trounced peers and colleagues around the continent.<\/p>\n<p>It is of importance note the strides that Kenya has made over the years in the energy sector that has seen\u00a0the country implement very stringent energy regulations and the key role played by both the public and\u00a0private sector in pursuing and implementing energy sustainability initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>The individual and corporate awardees have been recognized for their dedication and performance in the\u00a0energy efficiency and renewable energy industry and acknowledged for their individual and collective\u00a0efforts towards transforming the energy sector.<\/p>\n<p>The impressive list of awards for Sub Saharan Africa saw the following walk away feted and celebrated:.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sub-Saharan Africa Region<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Young Energy Professional of the Year\u00a0\u2013 Chris Mbori<br \/>\nEnergy Engineer of the Year\u00a0\u2013 Eustace Murithi Njeru<br \/>\nCorporate Energy Management\u00a0\u2013 Sarova Hotels Ltd<br \/>\nEnergy Professional Development\u00a0\u2013 Lawrence Muma Mang\u2019erere<br \/>\nEnergy Manager of the Year\u00a0\u2013 Albert Mugo<br \/>\nInnovative Energy Project of the Year\u00a0\u2013 280 MW Olkaria Geothermal Power Plant<br \/>\nEnergy Project of the Year\u00a0\u2013 Standard Bank Global Leadership Centre.<\/p>\n<p>The awards were presented to these energy leaders for outstanding performance as follows:.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Energy Engineer of the Year \u2013 Eustace Murithi Njeru<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0For the critical role he has played in developing the\u00a0Energy Management Regulations 2012 and implementing them through the Energy Regulatory Commission.\u00a0So far about 1000 facilities have conducted energy audits and started implementing energy management\u00a0regulations..<\/p>\n<p><strong>Energy Professional Development \u2013 Lawrence Muma Mang\u2019erere<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0For the important role played in\u00a0energy training and development and for overseeing the upskilling and knowledge transfer that has seen\u00a0the development of many energy engineers across East Africa over the last 10 years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Energy Manager of the Year \u2013 Albert <\/strong>Mugo \u2013\u00a0As the CEO of Kengen, his leadership has seen him steer the\u00a0organization to implement sustainable energy projects and to develop partnerships to further the energy\u00a0agenda, with specific focus on the successes recorded in the Geothermal Power Plant projects in Olkaria.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Innovative Energy Project of the Year \u2013 280 MW Olkaria Geothermal Power<\/strong> Plant \u2013\u00a0The project has been\u00a0truly innovative because Kengen has managed to reduce the lead times of generation energy from\u00a0geothermal using a new wellhead generation technology. It has also managed to save a lot of resources\u00a0using this new technology..<\/p>\n<p><strong>Corporate Energy Management \u2013 Sarova Hotels <\/strong>Ltd \u2013\u00a0Sarova Hotels has distinguished itself over the years\u00a0for ensuring processes, systems and policies are in place in all their facilities to ensure sustainable energy\u00a0use.
