{"id":5128,"date":"2016-09-06T10:34:00","date_gmt":"2016-09-06T10:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/?p=5128"},"modified":"2017-01-24T19:14:44","modified_gmt":"2017-01-24T19:14:44","slug":"east-africa-nations-race-to-become-regions-first-oil-exporter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/index.php\/east-africa-nations-race-to-become-regions-first-oil-exporter\/","title":{"rendered":"East Africa nations race to become region\u2019s first oil exporter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Significant onshore oil discoveries in Uganda and Kenya and offshore gas discoveries in Tanzania and Mozambique have made East Africa a subject of intense interest among the global energy industry.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The speed at which governments in East Africa are developing hydrocarbon reserves is a clear indication of their will to cement the region\u2019s reputation as the new hotspot in hydrocarbon exploration and production.<\/p>\n<p>Just last week, Tanzanian President John Magufuli ordered that exploitation of natural gas begin as a matter of urgency, whilst Kenya&#8217;s President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that the government has brought forward the country\u2019s oil production deadline by two years and \u2018set a path\u2019 that will enable the country to become a major producer and exporter by 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Tullow Oil will now send the country&#8217;s first barrels of oil to the market in March 2017, with exports expected soon after.<\/p>\n<p>Hon. Charles Keter, Cabinet Secretary of Kenya\u2019s Ministry of Energy and Petroleum is expected to expand on Kenya\u2019s extraction and transportation plans during his keynote speech at the East Africa Oil &amp; Gas Summit &amp; Exhibition (EAOGS) in Nairobi on <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1825925271\"><span class=\"aQJ\">16 November<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted for the fourth time by the Kenyan Ministry of Energy &amp; Petroleum, EAOGS is where government delegations, international oil companies, suppliers to the industry and investors from across the world come together to examine the hugely significant opportunities in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Key topics being tackled in 2016 include: progress being made in the Rift Valley, Uganda and Indian Ocean; real world innovations in offshore production technology and supply chain management; legal, institutional and regulatory challenges facing the industry; and environmental and safety concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Other experts confirmed to speak alongside Keter include: Hajatiana Rasolomanana, Director General of Hydrocarbons, Ministry of Energy &amp; Hydrocarbons, Madagascar; Keith Hill, CEO, Africa Oil Corp.; Ebbie Haan, Oil Chief Growth Officer, Maersk; Toks Azeez, Business Development Director, Baker Hughes; and Richard Kiplagat, COO, Africa Practice.<\/p>\n<p>Participants will enjoy free entry into the international exhibition where the likes of Bell Geospace, Blackwood Hodge, Palisade Europe and Vasler Oil &amp;
