{"id":5023,"date":"2016-08-08T11:08:46","date_gmt":"2016-08-08T11:08:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/?p=5023"},"modified":"2017-01-24T20:24:56","modified_gmt":"2017-01-24T20:24:56","slug":"ugandas-president-visits-chads-oil-refinery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/index.php\/ugandas-president-visits-chads-oil-refinery\/","title":{"rendered":"Uganda\u2019s President visits Chad\u2019s Oil Refinery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Yoweri Museveni who arrived in the Chadian capital N&#8217;Djamena on a two-day official visit during which he will also attend the swearing-in ceremony of President Idriss Deby to his fifth term in office also undertook to visit the country\u2019s refinery as his country sets its eyes on building a similar <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/1TXfqP8\">facility<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>President Museveni, accompanied by Chads Minister for Petroleum, Mines and Energy, Hon. Dj\u00e9rassem Le B\u00e9madjiel was flown by chopper to visit Chads Djarmaya Oil Refinery for a tour of the facilities.<\/p>\n<p>He was accompanied by Uganda\u2019s engineers; Irene Batebe the Principal Petroleum Engineer in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (Petroleum Directorate) and Refinery Engineer Benjamin Ariho.<\/p>\n<p>Djarmaya\u2019s refinery can produce 20,000 barrels per day (bpd) of gasoline, kerosene, and heating oil and has its feedstock supplied from the Ronier and Mimosa oilfields in Chad\u2019s southern Bongor region via a 193 mile-long pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>The Djarmaya refinery also produces 40 megawatts of electricity which is utilized by both the facility and the city.<\/p>\n<p>State-owned China National Petroleum Corporation International (CNPCI), a subsidiary of the state-owned China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) owns 60 percent of the refinery while owns the Chadian government 40 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Chad became an oil-producing nation in 2003 with the completion of a $4bn (\u00a32.6bn) pipeline linking its oilfields to terminals on the Atlantic coast.<\/p>\n<p>Uganda plans to build a\u00a060,000 barrels per day refinery in Hoima with the government currently holding talks with the alternate bidder South Korea&#8217;s\u00a0SK Engineering and Construction after Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/29B6ShB\">RT Global Resources<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2b2FH3P\">pulled out<\/a> of the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI congratulate President Idriss Deby for his forsight of building this refinery. Some countries produce petroleum but don\u2019t refine it. He has done the right thing, now Chad produces oil and consumes it.
