Total E&P RDC, operator of DRC\u2019s Block III, has finalized the acquisition of the 2D seismic survey over the northern part of the Block III area according to JV partner\u00a0SacOil.<\/p>\n

According to SacOil the block operator successfully completed the acquisition of 244km of 2D seismic data and currently the seismic acquisition contractor is in the process of demobilization.<\/p>\n

SacOil was however quick to report that, the seismic survey did not encroach on the environmentally sensitive and controversial Virunga National Park.<\/p>\n

Total E&P had earlier<\/a> announced that it had commenced with the acquisition of a 2D seismic survey following the granting of a two-year extension<\/a> to current exploration period by the Democratic Republic of Congo Minister of Hydrocarbons with the survey designed to acquire 300 km of 2D seismic.<\/p>\n

Following the completion of the acquisition the next step will be to process and interpret the seismic data, and integrate the results with the previously acquired gravity and magnetic data.<\/p>\n

This 2D seismic acquisition program is part of the fulfillment of the minimum work program obligations.<\/p>\n

The Block is located on the north-eastern part of the country part of\u00a0the East African Rift System bordering Uganda on the Albertine basin, where over 6.5 billion barrels have been discovered, was awarded in 2010 expires in January .<\/p>\n
