Mount Kenya University will develop joint scientific and technological research projects with China University of Petroleum (East China) following a memorandum of understanding signed between the two institutions.<\/p>\n
The MoU will expand scholarly ties, facilitate academic co-operation and promote mutual understanding.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis MoU spells a bright future for our students and faculty,\u201d said MKU Chairman Dr. Simon Gicharu. \u201cAs you are aware, Kenya, and indeed Africa is replete with natural resources but lacks enough manpower to tap these resources.\u201d<\/p>\n
China University of Petroleum (East China) and its sister university, in Beijing are considered to be the best universities in petroleum related studies in China. The university was founded in 1953, as Beijing Petroleum Institute.<\/p>\n
MKU is the largest private university in East and Central Africa, both in terms of infrastructure and student numbers and has a one of its strategic campuses is located in the oil-rich Northern Western region of Turkana.<\/p>\n
\u201cEmpowering local communities by improving the knowledge base has always been one of our key drivers,\u201d says Prof. Stanley Waudo, the university Vice-Chancellor.<\/p>\n
Dr Fengchi Luan, Dean, College of International Education at CUP signed the agreement on behalf of the Chinese university.<\/p>\n
The two universities will also exchange curriculums, students, and research personnel.<\/p>\n
