The second annual oil and gas convention organized by the Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum (UCMP) is set to begin next week from April 27-28, 2016 at the Kampala Serena Hotel.<\/p>\n

According to the Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum the event which runs under the theme \u201cSuppliers\u2019 Roadmap to Operational Excellence\u201d is aimed at rejuvenating the country\u2019s oil and gas second that has gone cold over the years despite huge discoveries.<\/p>\n

The organizers further hope the country will see renewed interest coming after a successful licensing round<\/a> for six blocks in the wider Albertine basin.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe call upon everyone involved in the supplying of goods and services in the oil and gas sector to make it a point to attend this summit as it will definitely boost their business opportunities,\u201d the Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum chief executive Irene Nakalyango is quoted by the New Vision daily.<\/p>\n

The event also comes at a time the country has refueled plans with construction of an export pipeline to the East African coast in top gear with a dispute<\/a> on the route expected to be finalized later this week.<\/p>\n

The convention is also expected to discuss on how to boost local participation as a facilitator for national economic empowerment.<\/p>\n

The convention that has already seen the participation of various major firms including: CNOOC Uganda, \u00a0TOTAL E&P, TULLOW Uganda, GIZ, Bollore Africa Logistics and PWC will feature side-line sessions and address how suppliers can partake the opportunities and challenges in the sector.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
