{"id":4516,"date":"2016-03-22T08:12:08","date_gmt":"2016-03-22T08:12:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/?p=4516"},"modified":"2017-01-25T10:55:30","modified_gmt":"2017-01-25T10:55:30","slug":"csr-forum-on-women-in-the-extractives-to-open-in-nairobi-tomorrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/index.php\/csr-forum-on-women-in-the-extractives-to-open-in-nairobi-tomorrow\/","title":{"rendered":"CSR Forum on Women in the Extractives To Open in Nairobi Tomorrow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Women in the extractives will tomorrow participate in a stakeholder Corporate Social Responsibility Forum being organized by the High Commission of Canada in partnership with Ufadhili Trust.<\/p>\n<p>The forum will focus on the theme \u201ccreating partnerships to advance the interests of women and local communities through the extractives sector\u201d with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) being an important cornerstone of management practices that guide many Canadian companies interested in doing business abroad.<\/p>\n<p>According to the organizers Kenya\u2019s extractives sector currently presents great potential for Kenya\u2019s economic growth as stipulated in Kenya\u2019s vision 2030 potential which also provides opportunities for women\u2019s economic engagement and investment in the sector<\/p>\n<p>The organizers thus say they would like to build on discussions and use the experiences of a variety of speakers and stakeholders to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Share on international sustainability best practices in the extractive sector;<\/li>\n<li>Explore the gender status of the extractive sector in Kenya and identify means of increasing women\u2019s engagement and participation in the sector; and,<\/li>\n<li>Explore viable ways of improving corporate social responsibility activities in regards to women\u2019s participation as a sector-wide collective<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Canada\u2019s CSR approach is comprehensive and involves not only working with companies, but also civil society, NGOs, local communities and governments thus creating a multi-stakeholder, fully participatory, approach, to ensure a win-win approach across the board.<\/p>\n<p>The one day forum to be opened by Canadian High Commissioner to Kenya David Angell will also highlight other issues including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gender Equality Principles and Extractives<\/li>\n<li>Increasing impact: Engaging women and local communities in decision making- International perspective<\/li>\n<li>Engaging women and local communities in decision making- a local perspective from Africa Oil<\/li>\n<li>How Corporate Social Investment can be leveraged to facilitate partnerships with local communities for the advancement of women in mining areas in Kenya<\/li>\n<li>The role of CSO in enhancing engagement of Women by industry players and impact on local communities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Women in the extractives will tomorrow participate in a stakeholder Corporate Social Responsibility Forum being organized by the High Commission of Canada in partnership with Ufadhili Trust.
