{"id":4513,"date":"2016-03-21T20:01:12","date_gmt":"2016-03-21T20:01:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/?p=4513"},"modified":"2017-01-25T10:57:02","modified_gmt":"2017-01-25T10:57:02","slug":"kenya-uganda-presidents-to-agree-on-crude-oil-pipeline-route-in-2-weeks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/index.php\/kenya-uganda-presidents-to-agree-on-crude-oil-pipeline-route-in-2-weeks\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya Uganda Presidents  to agree on crude oil pipeline route in 2 weeks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni today met alongside with their technical teams to discuss the construction of the Uganda-Kenya oil pipeline that has for the past month hit headlines after Uganda and Tanzania <a href=\"http:\/\/ow.ly\/ZLXYe\">agreed<\/a> a route through Tanzania to the Tanga Port.<\/p>\n<p>According to a communiqu\u00e9 from the meeting signed by Kenya\u2019s cabinet secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum Charles Keter and Uganda\u2019s Minister of Energy and Mineral Development Irene Muloni among topics discussed included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensuring the least cost of option for the pipeline<\/li>\n<li>Addressing constructability issues along all routes (northern route: through the oilfields in lokichar, southern route through Kenya\u2019s Nakuru town with a loop from Lokichar as well as a route from Hoima to Tanga)\u2013 existing and planned infrastructure, terrain and elevations<\/li>\n<li>Assessing and confirming the current proven reserves, which will have an impact on the size of the pipeline<\/li>\n<li>Viability of the port of Lamu, Mombasa and Tanga as export options<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We did not conclude and we have asked the ministers and senior officials to look at a number of issues we raised and to be ready to brief us within the next two weeks.
