The Inspector General of Police, Gen.Kale Kayihura has appointed Ahmed Waduwa Wafuba, formerly in charge of small and light weapons at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as the new head of the force\u2019s \u00a0Oil and Gas Operations Unit.<\/p>\n
He replaces Abbas Byakagaba who has been in charge of the Unit since 2011.<\/p>\n
Under the Oil and Gas Protection Directorate, the Unit was created on the directive of President Yoweri Museveni to secure the Albertine Region.<\/p>\n
According to a police source who preferred anonymity, Wafuba will handle criminal matters regarding oil and oversee security of the oil wells in the Albertine Region. He will be based in Buliisa District.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is supposed to establish a Unit that will protect the oil wells. The Unit will also have the capacity to do its own intelligence in the areas around the oil,\u201d revealed the source.<\/p>\n
Last year, the Uganda Police Force tabled a 20 billion shillings (approximately 8 million dollars) budget before Parliament to run the Oil and Gas Protection Directorate.<\/p>\n
