{"id":3452,"date":"2015-09-07T08:43:30","date_gmt":"2015-09-07T08:43:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/?p=3452"},"modified":"2015-09-07T08:43:30","modified_gmt":"2015-09-07T08:43:30","slug":"spectrum-secures-contract-2d-seismic-offshore-somalia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/index.php\/spectrum-secures-contract-2d-seismic-offshore-somalia\/","title":{"rendered":"Spectrum Secures Contract for 2D Seismic Offshore Somalia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spectrum ASA has announced it has entered into a Multi-client master co-operation agreement with the federal government of Somalia to acquire approximately 28,000 km of long offset 2D seismic data offshore south Somalia during a signing ceremony on September 5th at the SYL Hotel, Mogadishu.<\/p>\n<p>The new acquisition has been specifically designed to complement 20,000 km of existing seismic that was acquired in <a href=\"http:\/\/ow.ly\/RS0Z8\">2014<\/a> by Seabird Exploration under contract from oil explorer Soma Oil and Gas with the data\u00a0placed in the Ministry\u2019s data room in Mogadishu, as well as a data room in London and a virtual data room.<\/p>\n<p>Under a seismic option agreement with Ministry of Petroleum &amp; Mineral Resources, Federal Government of Somalia Soma oil and gas was set to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ow.ly\/MBebz\">benefit<\/a>\u00a0from blocks with an area of up to 60,000 sq km. Spectrum has also been granted the marketing rights for this data.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Somalia-Spectrum-Seismic-Coverage.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-3453\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Somalia-Spectrum-Seismic-Coverage-1024x726.jpg?resize=1024%2C726&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Somalia-Spectrum-Seismic-Coverage\" width=\"1024\" height=\"726\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Somalia-Spectrum-Seismic-Coverage.jpg?resize=1024%2C726&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Somalia-Spectrum-Seismic-Coverage.jpg?resize=300%2C213&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Somalia-Spectrum-Seismic-Coverage.jpg?w=1060&amp;ssl=1 1060w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Together, these seismic surveys will allow the in-depth study of hydrocarbon prospectivity offshore Somalia, which lies in close proximity to major discoveries on the East African margin.<\/p>\n<p>Spectrum says it will use its global reach to market both data sets and raise industry interest.<\/p>\n<p>At the signing ceremony the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, His Excellency Mohamed Mukhtar Ibrahim, said the acquisition will kick-start exploration in the country while Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia Omar Abdirashid A.
