{"id":3210,"date":"2015-08-05T08:38:11","date_gmt":"2015-08-05T08:38:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/?p=3210"},"modified":"2015-08-05T10:05:48","modified_gmt":"2015-08-05T10:05:48","slug":"preview-ugandas-oil-gas-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/index.php\/preview-ugandas-oil-gas-sector\/","title":{"rendered":"Preview into Uganda\u2019s Oil and Gas Sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Uganda\u2019s oil and gas sector has since the discovery of oil in 2006 transitioned from the exploration and appraisal phase to the development phase as the country prepares for sustainable production of the petroleum resources.<\/p>\n<p>A number of oil companies are currently licensed in the country to undertake petroleum exploration, development and production in the Albertine basin including: &#8211; China National Off shore Oil Corporation Uganda Limited (<a href=\"http:\/\/ow.ly\/QvDz7%20\">CNOOC<\/a> (U) Ltd), <a href=\"http:\/\/ow.ly\/QvDG4%20\">Total<\/a> E&amp;P Uganda B.V and <a href=\"http:\/\/ow.ly\/QvDP0%20\">Tullow<\/a> Uganda Operations Pty Limited.<\/p>\n<p>Uganda expects other significant investors to join the sector during 2015\/16 when:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>the procurement of a lead investor for the development of a refinery and its attendant infrastructure in the country is concluded<\/li>\n<li>new licensees come into the country at the conclusion of the first competitive licensing <a href=\"http:\/\/ow.ly\/QvCX7%20\">round<\/a> and<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>the subcontractors and service providers who will come into the country to support the development phase for the oil fields, development of the <a href=\"http:\/\/ow.ly\/QvDfj%20\">refinery<\/a> and construction of pipelines and other facilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To date over thirty (30) seismic surveys have been undertaken in Uganda resulting in the acquisition of 7,254.6 line Kilometres of Two Dimensional (2-D) seismic data and 1,948.6 square kilometres of Three Dimensional (3-D) Seismic data.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/oil-discoveries-Uganda.png?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-3211 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/oil-discoveries-Uganda.png?resize=436%2C614&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"oil discoveries Uganda\" width=\"436\" height=\"614\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/oil-discoveries-Uganda.png?w=436&amp;ssl=1 436w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/oil-discoveries-Uganda.png?resize=213%2C300&amp;ssl=1 213w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 436px) 100vw, 436px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The country has also seen the drilling of one hundred and twentyl (120) exploration and appraisal wells with one hundred and six (106) of these wells encountering oil and\/or gas resulting to a drilling success rate of over 85%.<\/p>\n<p>The drilling has led to the discovery of twenty one (21) oil and\/ or gas fields in the country\u2019s Albertine Graben with the appraisal of these discoveries has established that petroleum resources in these fields are now <a href=\"http:\/\/ow.ly\/QvDkJ%20\">estimated<\/a> at over 6.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent in place, with 500 billion standard cubic feet of gas.
