{"id":1987,"date":"2014-10-31T09:09:53","date_gmt":"2014-10-31T08:09:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/oilnewskenya.com\/?p=1987"},"modified":"2015-09-07T10:50:42","modified_gmt":"2015-09-07T10:50:42","slug":"tullow-kenya-donates-a-mobile-clinic-to-turkana-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/index.php\/tullow-kenya-donates-a-mobile-clinic-to-turkana-county\/","title":{"rendered":"Tullow Kenya Donates a Mobile Clinic to Turkana County"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tullow Kenya has donated a mobile clinic to Turkana County as part of the company\u2019s Ksh100 million support to the First Lady\u2019s Beyond Zero campaign that will see it donate a total of seven mobile clinics to several counties across the country.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0handover, held at the county headquarters in Lodwar, was graced by Her Excellency The First lady Margaret Kenyatta, Cabinet Secretary\u00a0for\u00a0Health, James Macharia, and the County Executive led by Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the\u00a0donation to Turkana County, Tullow has already donated a mobile clinic to Baringo County and has pledged to donate other clinics to Elgeyo Marakwet and Kisumu counties in the coming months. The remaining three mobile clinics will be handed over to other counties in the coming months and in accordance with the Beyond Zero schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Tullow\u2019s commitment was first announced during First Lady\u2019s historic run at the London Marathon in April this year. This is in addition to the Kshs 400 million that Tullow has committed on water, education, health and livelihood projects across all regions where Tullow has operations.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the event, Tullow Kenya\u2019s Country manager Martin Mbogo praised the First Lady\u2019s commitment to fighting maternal mortality and improving child health in the country through the Beyond Zero Campaign, which has seen her named the 2014 UN person of the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccess to maternal and child health services in Turkana county has been identified as a priority area for improvement and Tullow is proud to partner with the First Lady and the County Government in this effort,\u201d he said. \u201cThe mobile clinics we are donating will bring health services closer to the people who need them,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Mbogo added that Tullow is committed to promoting the socio-economic development of the communities where the company operates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have well-developed community engagement programs that are created, rolled-out and managed in partnership with local leaders and with the community,\u201d said Mr. Mbogo.<\/p>\n<p>As part of its social investment projects in Turkana, Tullow plans to spend Ksh140 million in building three <em>level four<\/em> hospitals, each at Lokichar, Lokori and Kanamkemer.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Tullow will also spend Ksh75 million to sponsor 15 students from the Turkana community for masters degree in oil and gas related studies and Ksh34 million to offer bursaries to over 2000 secondary school students in Turkana County.
