{"id":194,"date":"2013-12-09T08:11:53","date_gmt":"2013-12-09T08:11:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/oilnewskenya.com\/?p=194"},"modified":"2015-11-02T14:37:03","modified_gmt":"2015-11-02T14:37:03","slug":"tullow-hits-dry-well-ethiopias-tultule-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/index.php\/tullow-hits-dry-well-ethiopias-tultule-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Tullow hits dry well Ethiopia\u2019s Tultule-1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tullow Oil plc (Tullow) announces that the Tultule-1 wildcat well in the South\u00a0Omo block onshore <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Ethiopia\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=9.03,38.74&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=9.03,38.74 (Ethiopia)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Ethiopia<\/a>, has reached a total depth of 2,101 metres and will be plugged and abandoned as a dry hole.<\/p>\n<p>The well was targeting a reservoir section similar to the sands drilled in the nearby Sabisa-1 well where oil shows were encountered but these sands were not penetrated in Tultule-1.<\/p>\n<p>Gas shows were however recorded which reaffirm the presence of a hydrocarbon source in the region. The results of both the Sabisa-1 and the Tultule-1 wells will now be analysed to determine the future exploration campaign for the area.<\/p>\n<p>The OGEC rig will now move to the Chew\u00a0Bahir basin in Ethiopia to drill the\u00a0Shimela prospect in the eastern portion of the South\u00a0Omo block where new seismic has delineated a number of exciting new prospects, some of which have encouraging seismic amplitude anomalies.<\/p>\n<p>The well is expected to spud at the end of the first quarter of 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Tullow is the operator of the Tultule-1 well with a 50% interest along with partners Africa Oil (30%) and Marathon (20%).<\/p>\n<p>In Kenya, significant exploration activity continues in Block 10BB with the\u00a0Amosing-1 well currently drilling and the\u00a0Ewoi-1 well expected to spud by the end of the year.
