{"id":15729,"date":"2026-04-22T13:49:30","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T13:49:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/?p=15729"},"modified":"2026-04-22T13:49:30","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T13:49:30","slug":"bp-acquires-interest-in-three-namibian-exploration-blocks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/index.php\/bp-acquires-interest-in-three-namibian-exploration-blocks\/","title":{"rendered":"bp acquires interest in three Namibian exploration blocks"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">bp has agreed to acquire a 60% interest in three offshore exploration blocks in Namibia from Eco Atlantic Oil &amp; Gas as part of bp\u2019s strategy to grow its upstream portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Subject to Namibian government approvals, bp will be the operator of three blocks \u2013 PEL97, PEL99 and PEL100 \u2013 offshore Namibia in the Walvis Basin, with Eco Atlantic remaining a partner, along with Namibia\u2019s national oil company NAMCOR, following transaction closing conditions being met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gordon Birrell, bp\u2019s executive vice president, production &amp; operations, said: \u201cNamibia is a region attracting growing industry interest and has a number of exciting frontier basins. This agreement marks bp\u2019s entry into the country as an operator, strengthens bp\u2019s exploration portfolio and provides long-term growth potential. We look forward to supporting the country in developing its resources.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Entering these blocks will enable bp to build on its recent exploration successes in Namibia through Azule Energy. Completion of the transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including necessary approvals from the Namibian authorities and joint venture partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">bp announced two exploration discoveries since the beginning of the year, following 12 discoveries in 2025, further strengthening its exploration portfolio in support of long-term organic growth.
