Following the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of a new oil refinery in Kribi on 17 July 2025, CSTAR would like to make the following clarifications:
The CSTAR project is part of a complementary approach aimed at strengthening national and sub-regional crude oil processing capacities, with the aim of reducing dependence on imports and
better securing energy supplies for Cameroon and the CEMAC zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CSTAR reaffirms its respect for SONARA and acknowledgement of this company, which is the historic flagship of the national oil industry, and expresses its full willingness to contribute its technical,
industrial and financial expertise to any project to rebuild and modernise SONARA, as as soon as the relevant authorities officially launch the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The strategic objective behind the creation of CSTAR is to diversify and expand the refining capacity, in response to growing demand for refined petroleum products. This initiative seeks to establish an integrated ecosystem where CSTAR and SONARA, each with their own specificities and geographical locations, collaborate to promote energy sovereignty, industrial competitiveness and national
development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CSTAR remains attentive to the stakeholders and reaffirms its commitment to acting in transparency, responsibility and in partnership with the State to create a stronger, more resilient and inclusive energy future. This is in line with the ambition of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul BIYA, to make
Cameroon a major energy and industrial hub in Central Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
