Its primary objective was to test the sands of the Upper Cretaceous reservoir, in the Grudja – 12 reservoir and the Grudja – 6 to 11 reservoirs were considered as secondary objectives.

The gas discovery in the Baobab-1 Well, Grudja-8 Reservoir, was confirmed by reading the mud-log gas during drilling, combined with electrical wireline log data, added to Magnetic Resonance (CRM) data, including fluid samples from the G-8 reservoir at surface collected in the hole using the Single Probe Magnetic Modular Dynamic Test (MDT) instrument.

Resulting from the technical work developed by the ENH and Sasol research teams, the recent discovery, which is the second in Area PT5-C in different reservoirs and prospects, consolidates a new page in national geological knowledge associated with the potential for hydrocarbon occurrences in the vicinity of the Pande (G6 – in production; and G10 & G11 and G11A under evaluation), Temane (G9 – in production; G6a, G8, G10, G11, G11a & G12, G12a under development), Inhassoro (G6 and G10 under development) and Buzi (G9 under evaluation) gas fields, as it proves the presence of gas in the reservoirs of the Lower Grudja formation in addition to the Pande, Temane, Inhassoro and Buzi areas.

In this context, the second discovery in Area PT5-C greatly encourages exploration activities in the Mazenga block and in the adjacent areas and surroundings of the deposits currently in production and development in the Mozambique Sedimentary Basin. Furthermore, while on the one hand there is a great gain in geological knowledge, on the other hand, this discovery consolidates the confirmation of the availability of more gas, consolidating Mozambique as one of the main suppliers of this fuel for the energy transition to the national, regional and global markets.

This block is operated by Sasol, holding a 70 percent stake, with ENH as a partner, with 30 percent.

Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH,EP) announces the discovery of natural gas in the Baobab – 1 well, in the Mozambique Sedimentary Basin, Onshore Area, in block PT5-C, located in the … Read More

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[7442,7445,11
11741,11742,738,766,11743,3642,1636,2249
post-14632","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-countries","category-southern-africa","category-top-news","tag-area-pt5-c","tag-baobab-1-well","tag-empresa-nacional-de-hidrocarbonetos","tag-enh","tag-grudja-8","tag-mazenga-block","tag-mozambique","tag-sasol","entry

https://i0.wp.com/www.oilnewskenya.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Mozambique-Baobab-1.jpg?fit=2048%2C1449&ssl=1
https://www.oilnewskenya.com/index.php/sasol-enh-and-eni-announce-pre-feasibility-study-for-large-scale-gas-to-liquids-facility-in-mozambique/
Sasol, ENH and Eni announce pre-feasibility study for large-scale gas-to-liquids facility in Mozambique
Sasol has announced a joint pre-feasibility study for a large-scale gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant, which will be based on gas from the Rovuma Basin in Northern Mozambique.
