A Memorandum of Understanding was signed tlast week between the Economic Community of West African States \u201cECOWAS\u201d, represented by Mr. Sediko Douka, Commissioner of Infrastructure, Energy and Digitalization, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, represented by Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the National Nigerian Petroleum Company Limited “NNPC” and the Kingdom of Morocco, represented by Mrs. Amina Benkhadra, Director General of the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines ONHYM.<\/p>\n
This Memorandum of Understanding confirms the commitment of ECOWAS and the
\ninvolvement of all the crossed countries to contribute to the feasibility of this important
\nproject, which will supply gas to all West African countries and will enable a new export route to Europe.<\/p>\n
As a reminder, the Nigeria Morocco Gas Pipeline strategic project has been initiated through the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n
The gas pipeline located along the West African coast from Nigeria, going through Benin, Togo, Ghana, C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Gambia, Senegal and Mauritania to Morocco, and will be connected to the Maghreb Europe Gas Pipeline in order to reach the European gas network. It will also supply natural gas to the landlocked states of Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali.<\/p>\n
This strategic project will help improving the living standard of the populations, the integration of the economies of the sub-region, and the reduction of the desertification thanks to a sustainable and reliable supply of gas.<\/p>\n
The pipeline will also have significant economic benefits for the region, through the use of a clean energy that meets the continent’s new commitments to protect the environment.
