{"id":11769,"date":"2022-02-07T17:00:37","date_gmt":"2022-02-07T17:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/?p=11769"},"modified":"2022-02-07T17:00:37","modified_gmt":"2022-02-07T17:00:37","slug":"botswana-tlou-energy-awarded-10mw-generation-license","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oilnewskenya.com\/index.php\/botswana-tlou-energy-awarded-10mw-generation-license\/","title":{"rendered":"BOTSWANA: Tlou Energy Awarded 10MW Generation License"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span dir=\"ltr\">Transmission Line<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">Tlou is pleased to announce that work is set to commence on the transmission line and substations to\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">connect the Lesedi power project to the electricity grid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">As announced late last year, funding has been secured for the construction of the transmission line\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">and substations from our largest shareholder (Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund) and since that\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">time the relevant contractors have been updating their tenders to reflect any cost adjustments since\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">their original submissions. This process is largely complete and following final signatures the work is\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">set to commence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span dir=\"ltr\">Project Construction<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">The Lesedi project is located approximately 100Km from the existing electricity grid. The development\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">will include the erection of wooden poles fitted with an overhead 66kV transmission line. In addition,\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">substations will be installed at Lesedi and close to Serowe. The Lesedi substation will integrate the\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">generation assets with the transmission line and the Serowe substation will tie in with Botswana\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">Power Corporation\u2019s existing infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">The transmission line route has been surveyed and full environmental approval is in place. The line\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">will predominantly cross flat, arid terrain with the last ~5 Km being through the outskirts of the Serowe\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">township.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">As previously announced, experienced contractors are being used for the project with construction of\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">the overhead lines by Zismo Engineering (Pty) Ltd and by OptiPower for the construction of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">substations.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Zismo<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">is a Botswana based Electrical Engineering, Contracting, Automation and Refurbishment\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">Company. See\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">https:\/\/optipower.co.za for further details.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span dir=\"ltr\">10MW Generation Licence<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">The Company recently received a 10MW Electricity Generation License from the Botswana Energy\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">Regulatory Authority (BERA).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">The licence has a term of 15 years and is for the generation of 10MW of power at the Lesedi project\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">for sale to Botswana Power Corporation (BPC).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span dir=\"ltr\">Project Timetable<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\">A series of key milestones have been achieved in the past year allowing the Company to progress into\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">the development phase and towards first revenue. A tentative timetable towards this target is set out\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">below. The Lesedi 3P (\u201cL3\u201d) production pod\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">was shut-in for approximately 18 months during the pandemic and was recently brought back into\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">production following the resumption of full operations. Since resumption, L3 has already\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">recommenced flowing gas which is a very positive indicator and the Lesedi 4P (\u201cL4\u201d) production pod\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\">also continues to flow sustained gas.
